Le BCO n’est plus qu’à un succès d’un huitième titre consécutif. Après le manque d’efficacité dont Ostende avait fait preuve à domicile lors de la deuxième manche, l’objectif prioritaire était de retrouver de la constance et de la fluidité dans son jeu offensif. Dario Gjergja avait pris le parti de titulariser Jean-Marc Mwema à la place de Vincent Kesteloot afin, sans doute, d’amener du répondant musculaire face à Victor Sanders qui avait été l’homme clé côté anversois lors du match précédent.
