Le Standard ne peut plus être champion mais doit encore prendre un point. Depuis le début des playoffs, les Liégeois prenaient un malin plaisir à répéter qu’ils n’avaient aucune pression dans ce mini-championnat et qu’ils avaient atteint leur objectif en décrochant un ticket européen via la Coupe de Belgique. Pourtant, il suffisait de voir leur déception au coup de sifflet final pour comprendre que l’idée de décrocher la première place lors de la dernière journée de compétition avait fait son petit bonhomme de chemin au sein du vestiaire. Des joueurs accroupis, couchés sur la pelouse ou debout, sans émotion : cela trahit invariablement une ambition revue à la hausse.
